Technology in Literacy Instruction
Technology in Education Essay: Introduction
Technology is ingraining in our lives every day. Thus, it is affecting our ways of having fun, eating, working, and learning. Since technology has approved its importance in last twenty years, literacy instructors have started to change their methods in teaching in order to increase the quality of education. There are many different techniques and applications to integrate literacy with technology. We will be discussing on some of them such as, Speak It!, Talk to Me, (Heick, 2019) Kahoot and Google Classroom(Ezzatvar, 2018) First, Speak It!, it is a text-to-speech application which allows students to hear what they have written. In addition, Talk to Me is also a text-to-speech application. These two applications are supporting the students with disabilities and encouraging students to correlate letters and words with their pronunciations. Kahoot and Google Classroom users are from all of the ages. (Google Classroom, 2018) Using Kahoot allows instructors to ask a question to their students, and it turns the questions into a playable game. Google Classroom allows instructors to store class materials and share assignments.
Body Paragraphs
When we look at Bloom’s Taxonomy, it includes six levels: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. (Holmes & Gardner, 2006) Four of these applications, as divided into two units, two applications for kids and two applications for all ages, are useful for literacy instruction in diverse students. In addition to these apps, there are also SMART Boards that influence the quality of education and make classes more interesting. (Yu, 2019) SMART Boards allow teachers to share videos and images during the course.
As far as I am concerned, instruction apps should allow more media and more games in the classrooms. If I came up with an idea about a pedagogical technology wheel, it would start with enhancing students’ interests in technology with research tasks they would do in the classroom. So forth, my first level would be Research (directing students to do Research through Google, etc. and leading them to take notes). Along with Research Level, the second one would be Curiosity Level; each student will ask one question to their teacher and the rest of the class through the media apps such as Kahoot and Google Classroom(directing students to watch different videos on different topics and let them ask a question to their teachers and their friends). The third level is the Solution Level; students answer questions as an assignment (directing students to explain and share their answers). The last level is Repeat Level, which includes sharing answers and doing quizzes with fun activities. (directing students to understand their classmate’s way of thinking)
Technology in Education Essay: Conclusion
In conclusion, Google Classroom and Kahoot, both are suitable for diverse students, since they have the chance to collaborate and have fun with their friends and teachers in the games. Considering the models, in my opinion, Google Classroom, Kahoot, and my model of pedagogical technology wheel would do quite a good job. They will be directing students to Research, making them curious about topics, making them asking questions to their friends in class and their teacher, and finally repeating it together. Diverse students should engage by using technologies integrated into literacy, and their instructors also should be able to use these technologies in order to increase the attention.
