Gender Differences Essay: Abstract

Findings infer that there exist many differences between males and females in terms of cognitive skills. Females tend to concentrate on details and emotions. On the other hand, males concentrate on technical aspects and core incidents. A word survey has been prepared for both genders. According to results, females have better detail-oriented memory than males. Also, both genders tend to remember what attracts them most in daily life, and while males tend to remember the technical words, females have written down the words of detail and emotions, as expected.

Introduction

There exist many differences between males and females in terms of physiology, psychology, stamina, cognitive perspective, and many other functions. Nevertheless, along with the many scholarly articles, one may readily claim that the brain of a male and a female has a slight difference (Ely & Mccabe, 2017; Hyde & Mckinley, 1997). In other words, females tend to concentrate on details, and males focus on the overall structure of an issue (Syukriyani, Juniati, & Siswono, 2017). In this paper, research on gender differences in memory has been presented. Accordingly, data have been collected by five female and five male participants. After all, both genders tend to remember what attracts them most in daily life, and while males tend to remember the technical words, females have written down the words of detail and emotions, as expected.

Method of the Study

Certain words, as shown below, are selected for participants to listen to. The study requires a recall of a list of words that have just been read to participants. Then, the participants have been expected to write down the words that they remember. The words are listed below, respectively:

Cat House Jump Love Girl

Phone Apple Hat Chair Bus

Happy Dog Friend Run Ball

Green Truck Bird Orange Boy

Fish Sad Ship Desk Block

Secondly, the notes of participants have been collected and analyzed meticulously. The most remembered words have been sorted as females and males on excel. A comparable graph has been prepared for the most remembered words.

Results

Study results reveal that although males have written down five words on average, women could remember and have written down six words on average. For males, girl, phone, ball, truck, and ship were among the most remembered words, respectively. On the other hand, love, happy, run, orange, sad, and green were among the most remembered words by women, respectively. Although participants have also written the other words down, the words that were remembered by less than 2 participants were not taken into account as they do not have statistical value when considered the volume of participants.

Discussion

When considered the fact that all the males could remember the word girl, one may claim the existence of the opposite gender as a word that may trigger a memory boost for most of the males. Overall, the rate of memory and technical words are highly correlated in the study. In other words, males could remember words such as phone, truck, and ship quickly. In this sense, the so-called male attraction to cars or other technical words may underline this statistic in the research. Also, males are considered fans of a sports event in many cases, such as football, basketball, and wrestling. The statistic of the word ball may reflect this attraction among males as well.

On the other hand, love was the most remembered word for females who participated in the research. The so-called tendency to love by females can be a determinant of the statistic. Secondly, color words such as orange and green were also remembered by females. Arguably, the fact that females tend to remember details more than males can be a reflective thesis on the statistic when considered that none of the males wrote down any color words. Also, emotion words such as happy and sad were among the most remembered words by females. Research findings suggest that females tend to be more emotional than men in many cases (Hyde & Mckinley, 1997). These findings may shed light on the survey findings as well.

Gender Differences Essay: Conclusion

After all, the paper presents research on gender differences in memory. A survey consisted of words that have been prepared for 10 participants. Accordingly, although males have written down five words on average, women could remember and have written down six words on average. Eventually, both genders tend to remember what attracts them most in daily life. While males tend to remember the technical words, females have written down the words of detail and emotions, as expected.
